Source Engine Adventure-FPS Estranged gets Steam release

Modding & Development Source

Happy New Year! Okay, it might be a little late for that, but things have been a bit quiet in Source modding lately. But never mind, because here’s a great mod to keep you entertained during these cold winter’s evenings (or summer if you’re in the southern hemisphere, I guess).

Source Engine Adventure-FPS Estranged gets Steam release

Estranged: Act One is a free game created on an improved version of the Half-Life 2 engine, telling the story of a fisherman shipwrecked on a mysterious shoreline. Taking on this role, you will have to explore, survive and try to uncover the secrets of the island. If you want to know more you can check out our review of the mod’s beta, but in short this is an atmospheric adventure with some fantastic gameplay and plenty of visual polish. In addition, the Steam release includes some additional enhancements, new areas, and Steam achievements.

The game is one of an increasing number of Source projects to be distributed over Steam, with other recent examples including the co-op horror shooter No More Room in Hell.

Estranged: Act One was released today on Steam, and is available free to owners of any valid Source engine game. With Steam making installation easy, there’s no excuse not to download this mod and try it out.

  1. I just finished Estranged. All in all, not a bad mod. I’ve seen better voice acting in games from the 20th century, and the level design deteriorated substantially at the very end of the game. The storyline was extremely vague and not very indepth—but the music was great, the atmosphere was a thrill. I liked it enough to get all the achievements. To the developers of EAO: Great work, guys!
